Happy New Year!

First, I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year!

Second, it’s been quiet around OO this week. On Tuesday I slipped on some ice and messed up my left ankle. Hopefully I’ll be good to go for the Chili Bowl. I should be back in the normal routine next week so look for more updates then.

Everyone be safe tonight, and I’ll see you in 2010!

Another One Bites the Dust

Video: State Fair Speedway to close after 55 years

NewsOK.com is reporting that State Fair Speedway in Oklahoma City is closing after 55 years of racing.

It seems the track’s downfall is nearly $400,000 worth of electrical repairs that must be made in order for the facility to re-open.

Oklahoma has a rich sprint car heritage, it’s a real shame to see another historic dirt track venue close its doors.

2010 Tentative ASCS Midwest Schedule

I came across the first copy of the ASCS Midwest’s 2010 schedule today. Not sure how much it will change from now until the season starts, but it gives you a pretty good idea on what to expect.

One interesting note, I-80 Speedway has scheduled a two-day ASCS MW vs Northern Plains show for Friday and Saturday, April 9-10. This is in direct conflict with Eagle’s planned open house and Ice Breaker Challenge.

Bull Ring Confusion

Last year it was called Twas The Midgets Before Christmas. For 2010 the BullRing_black_bgKemper Arena midget show in Kansas City is called The Bull Ring Midget Nationals.

I’ll admit that the “Twas The Midgets…” name was unique, but probably a little awkward for an event title. The Bull Ring is a bit more traditional for a race name and a little less of a mouthful.

Adios Eagle

The 2010 Eagle Raceway schedule was announced yesterday. The schedule features a two-day ASCS Sprints Car Dirt Series (ASCS National) stop on June 11-12. Add to that the re-energized Nebraska Cup on September 12, running under an ASCS Midwest/Northern Plains banner, and you have three solid nights of racing.

Unfortunately, aside from those three nights Eagle’s schedule is completely forgettable.
